The Navy's Tartar missile was a
short/medium range surface-to-air missile.
It is essentially a Terrier HT-3 without a
booster.  First flown in 1958 and declared
operational in 1962.  The basic Tartar
missile was designated as RIM-24A (seen
here).  It was effective within altitudes of
50-50,000 feet at distances between 2000
yards to 7.5 nm.
This approximately 1/8 sport scale model
of the Tartar makes its debut as the
commemorative kit for the 2010 National
Sport Launch in New Mexico.  This model
was selected because of its historic
involvement in testing at the White Sands
Missile Range in NM not far from where
NSL was held.

A fairly simple build, this Skill Level 2
bird will be a fun and exciting addition to
any fleet.  Whether you are interested in
scale models, missiles, White Sands
history, the Navy or even just cool, large
18mm birds, the Tartar is the kit for you!
